Do you consider pro basketball a business or a sport?

When a sport becomes big business is it no longer considered a sport? Is winning just a matter of increasing corporate revenue or a competitive victory between athletes?

A SPORT:

1 a: a source of diversion : recreation b: (1): physical activity engaged in for pleasure (2): a particular activity (as an athletic game) so engaged in

A BUSINESS:

a: a usually commercial or mercantile activity engaged in as a means of livelihood

b: a commercial or sometimes an industrial enterprise

c: dealings or transactions especially of an economic nature

To me, you compete in a sport because you love the sport. You do a job because it makes you a lot of money. Do pro players play because they love the money or the game? Would they play for $60,000 a year?

Just looking for opinions.

when it comes to the money they get, its ridiculous anyone gets paid that much to play a game. i love basketball, but thats not really fair when teachers make so little and their job is probably a bit more important when it comes to the future generations... i dunno, i guess that it would be a business in some peoples lives, but as a sport, the money is insane.

Business, through and through. That's what makes it "Pro" Basketball.

Someone mentioned Bill Gates: Coincidentally Steve Ballmer, CEO of microsoft, is made an offer to help renovate Key Arena and keep the Sonics in Seattle. And what about Portlands owner Paul Allen - he's from Microsoft as well, how conveinient. I guess there will be some Kicka** X-Box games this year. J/K
both
Its a business because the nba commissioner is a former lawyer so all he thinking about is revenues. Basketball is entertainment that draws viewers. If it was strictly a sport people can watch it anywhere. High school, college, or even international. The nba is the upper echelon of sports so it deserves to be classify as entertainment which is business oriented.
it's a sport of course. yeah they will play for 60k a year if a team can only afford that. nba don't pay much before.
for me its a sport but for players in the nba and the owners it is strictly business
It`s both it`s first a professional sport then it`s a buisness because it generates money hopefully profit!
A sport, if it was a buisness then Bill Gates would be dropping 30 a game
i agree with The DA*

just because hes the MAN!!!
